Spurs forward Rudy Gay will decline his player option in his contract with the team in order to become an unrestricted free agent, per ESPN's Chris Haynes.

Gay, 31, signed a two-year $17 million contract with the team after surgery to repair a torn left Achilles tendon sidelined him during the 2016-17 season.

In his lone season with San Antonio, Gay averaged 11.5 points and 5.7 rebounds over 57 games. The 6-9 forward started in four of the Spurs' five postseason games and averaged 12.2 points and 5.6 rebounds in 32.0 minutes of action.
